Brain injury: a hidden disability
When approached by Headway Glasgow as to whether Digby Brown Solicitors would be interested in supporting a book of photographs and stories on people with brain injuries - you might at first be forgiven for anticipating a fairly serious read.
A glance at some of the photographs and early drafts of the stories immediately pushed this first impression away to reveal a truly inspirational and thought provoking insight into those affected by brain injury - revealing individual circumstances which could happen to anyone, at any time.
Digby Brown was very definitely on board.
A year in the making, the book explains more through use of imagery and real stories than a hundred clinical tomes on the subject matter. Having a brain injury can affect every aspect of life and as the title suggests can remain hidden to the casual eye.
Digby Brown has been involved and associated with Headway nationally and Headway Glasgow for many years. As a firm of solicitors who deal with the circumstances of those unfortunate to have an acquired brain injury through the result of an accident, it is part of our job to assess how and to what extent this will affect the individual for the rest of their lives.
Clinically a diagnosis can be made. However, knowing the circumstances of change over a prolonged period of time, the requirement for immediate versus long term rehabilitation and care needs, housing issues, independence and safety issues all need to be considered. It is our job to ensure that, if the brain injury was as a result of negligence, the amount of compensation which is rightfully deserved, will adequately cover all the needs of the individual today, tomorrow and for the rest of their lives.
This is what Digby Brown does on a daily basis for our clients who have an acquired brain injury. We are here to help, we recognise the huge body of work which Headway do and are proud to support this project and others in future years.
You can read either Billy's or Mark's story here or alternatively, you can learn more about how Digby Brown try and help people who have sustained a brain injury.
