Digby Brown staff challenge themselves to raise money for local charities

Staff take on running challenges for charity

Over the last couple of months staff from our Glasgow and Aberdeen offices took on four gruelling challenges to raise money for their local charity partners.

This included the Glasgow Kiltwalk by Karen Bell, Paris Marathon by Monica Franchi and Edinburgh Marathon by Kimberley MacLennan and Lisa O’Donnell.

Karen Bell from the finance department took on the Big Stroll at the Glasgow Kiltwalk in April. She laced up her walking boots and trekked 11 miles from Clydebank to Balloch where there was a big party with lots of bands waiting to cheer all the walkers in.

Most people choose to take in the sights of a new city with a gentle stroll or on an open top bus but Monica Franchi, Solicitor from our Glasgow office, opted to tour the city by running in the Paris Marathon to raise money for the Glasgow office’s charity partner. This was Monica’s first ever marathon and though she chose a picturesque backdrop, it made the run no less challenging.

Monica wasn’t the only Digby Brown marathon runner as at the end of May Kimberley MacLennan, Associate in our Aberdeen office, and Lisa O’Donnell, Solicitor in our Glasgow office, ran the Edinburgh marathon to raise money for their office charity partners.

This was a big leap for Kimberley, who hadn’t run further than a half marathon before.

Reflecting on the big day, Kimberley said: “It was the biggest challenge training for the marathon, and very hard to keep going on the day - but the crowds got you through. It was worth it at the finish line, getting that medal and seeing family was very emotional. Raising funds for our local charity was the cherry on top. “

The Aberdeen local charity for 2024 is The BIG Group. It is a volunteer-led charity supporting people in Grampian affected by Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) by raising awareness of the condition and reducing the social isolation often experienced by people affected by ABI.

Chris’s House is the Glasgow office local charity which offers a safe environment for people in suicidal crisis to get professional support and postvention support to those bereaved by suicide.

We are delighted to have so many staff at Digby Brown who are willing to participate in personal activities and challenges. Together they have not only cumulatively covered almost 100 miles between them but they have also raised more than £3,000 for their charity partners - well done!
